| L-Hydroxyproline, a hydroxylated form of the imino acid proline, is a major component of collagen which is located in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues to contribute to tissue integrity and mechanical properties of ligament strength and skin flexibility. The major form is 4-hydroxyproline, but 3-hydroxy form is also present. The human body makes proline which is converted to hydroxyproline in the presence of vitamin C. L-Hydroxyproline can be used in the synthesis of mycology medicals (anti-fungals) and chiral ligands (enantioselective ethylation of aldehydes) |
